Frequently Asked Questions

Tap the Browse tab in the app to discover photography communities. Tap any community card and select Join. You’ll be added as a member instantly and will be able to see the community’s events.
You need to be an admin of a community to create events. From the Events tab, tap the + button at the top right. Fill in the event title, date, location, and type (Photo Walk, Photo Tour, Workshop, or Meetup), then save. You can then add activity stops from the Activity tab.
Shutter Host supports four event types. Photo Walks are guided group shoots with numbered challenge stops. Photo Tours are multi-day events with per-stop scheduling and sequential unlocking. Workshops are structured teaching sessions with a timed agenda. Meetups are casual gatherings with a venue and optional event link — great for camera club nights and social shoots. Community admins can choose which event types to show in their community settings.
Pro is $9.99/month and is designed for community admins who want to run unlimited events. Free accounts can create up to 2 events. Pro unlocks unlimited events, sequential stop unlocking, full community management, and all planning tools. Attendees do not need Pro — it’s free to join and attend any event.
Go to the Community tab and tap the settings icon (or your admin community screen). Scroll to the Camera System section and tap your camera brand — Sony, Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm, or OM System. The Gear Advisor will then show lens recommendations for your specific mount when you open it before an event.
Location Scout is a shared map of photography spots curated by your community admin. You can find it in the Map tab. Each spot includes a name, address, best time to shoot, access notes, and photography genre tags. Members can also suggest new spots — the admin reviews and approves them before they appear publicly. Approved spots show as pins on the map so you can explore great shooting locations between events.
When sequential unlocking is enabled on an event, attendees can only see the next stop after they have marked the current one as complete. This is great for guided tours where you want to reveal locations one at a time. Admins always see all stops regardless of this setting.
Yes — admins can export any event’s full itinerary as a PDF by tapping the export button on the event card. The PDF includes all stops with their locations, descriptions, and scheduled times. This requires a Pro subscription.
Yes. When creating a new event, tap the import button and paste the URL of an event page on your website. Shutter Host will automatically extract the title, date, location, and description. This works best with WordPress event pages and similar structured pages.
Your subscription is managed through your Apple ID. To cancel, open the Settings app on your iPhone, tap your name at the top, then Subscriptions. Find Shutter Host and tap Cancel Subscription. You will retain Pro access until the end of your current billing period.
Go to your Community settings and tap Restore Purchases. This refreshes your subscription status with Apple. If the problem persists, please contact support with your Apple receipt and we’ll resolve it promptly.
Location is used to show your position on the event map so you can navigate to photo stops. It is also used by the Golden Hour and Sun Position planning tools to calculate accurate times for your current location. Location data is never stored on our servers and is only used locally on your device during an event.
